Thanks to our innovative SMS technology, we are able to reconstitute catenoid-like necks in vitro, such as those present in autophagosome and nuclear envelope.
Furthermore, we can reconstitute curvature-sensing proteins that assemble on this very special membrane geometry and study their function.

This dynamically triangulated surface (DTS) simulation done by Weria Pezeshkian illustrates the process of membrane deformation leading to the creation of a catenoid-like neck. Using the same technique we can easily make dumbbell-shaped liposomes, which are fantastic tools to study cell division.
