This dynamically triangulated surface (DTS) simulation done by Weria Pezeshkian illustrates the process of membrane deformation leading to the creation of a catenoid-like neck. Using the same technique we can easily make dumbbell-shaped liposomes, which are fantastic tools to study cell division.
